Lambs Canyon Trail with the Ladies!

Once a year, Letizia organizes a hike for the ladies in her church congregation. Every year it is guaranteed to be a good time. And this year was no different. Adventure was had by all, and moose sighting were had by ... read on to find out. Photo credits for this post: Jenn and Richelle! Thank you!

Above is the trailhead and the Alltrails mileage for a round trip experience. It seems with the advent of smart watches and phones, everyone comes up with different mileage and elevation gain for the same trail. For the purpose of this blog, I will use the stats off of alltrails.com until a more agreeable happy medium can be decided upon for distance and mileage. 😁

Here's how it went down. Most of us piled into Rebecca's car (with stadium seating for those of us in the back!) and off we headed. We hit the trail around 5 p.m. and moved steadily up. On the way up, Richelle pointed out to me the gigantic moose tracks on the trail. We recently had rain, so the trail was very, shall we say, impressionable if you weight as much as a moose. Because of the number of tracks on the trail, it seemed to me that the moose had recently been here, and I think of few of us were hoping to see said moose. (Letizia for sure. She always wants to see a moose. Spoiler alert: no moose sighting. Sigh.)

As we headed up we chatted about various and sundry topics including, but not limited to: children going on missions, family life, work adventures, how you met your husband, ultimatums givens to said  husbands when they were boyfriends, and of course, the pandemic! 😷 We caught our breath under the guise of taking in the view. (It's a little trick I use when hiking with people who are in shape. It usually gets me about 30 seconds of breathing normally before the wheezing starts again.) As you can see below, it really was quite beautiful.

Lovely views all around! L-R: Letizia, Rebecca, Jenn, part of Andrea, me, Natasha, and Richelle.

Seeing for miles!

After playing leap frog with a few people on the trail (not literally), we arrived at the top! Some members of the group, who will remain nameless, may have initially failed to notice the valley view from the top. But, we all got clued in, enjoyed the view there, ate snacks, tried to figure out the peaks we could see around us (Yes, it was Grandeur Peak.), and conned a nice lady into taking a picture of all of us. Here's a few photos at the top:

We were in the competition for the nicest hikers on the trail. I think we won by a landslide. From left to right: Jenn, Me, Richelle, Natasha, Letizia, Andrea, and Rebecca.

I think that's Grandeur Peak, and a nice view of the sun behind a cloud.

With all good hikes, you eventually have to head back to the car, which we did. Downhill was much nicer on our lungs, but I found it to be less nice to my knees even though it is a really nice, friendly, pine needly type trail. #whinewhine  As you can see, no one stopping for the view. It is easier to breath and engage in conversation going down.

On the way down we had more interesting stories about various and sundry topics including, but not limited to: health of family members, childbirth (These moms are so amazing, strong, and and good!), and of course, the pandemic. It was such a fantastic hike. The temperatures were cool. The moose tracks looked cool. And, the company was the coolest! Another successful hike in the books.🥾 I am officially looking forward to next year's grand hiking adventure with these ladies!
